GTCO 20th bday

Welcome to Session 4!

As we look forward to celebrating our twentieth year beginning in September of 2010, we want to thank you for letting us be a part of your Child’s education. We take great pride in our gymnastics expertise, yet perhaps just as much, in knowing that the unseen skills are just as important. The patience, determination and confidence needed to not only acquire, but just to attempt, new skills will hopefully stay with our students a lifetime. Whether it is one of our competitive cheerleaders doing a “full down” or our 16 month old doing a somersault for the very first time, the learning process is in full gear. In this hurry, hurry drivet hru world the patience often needed to succeed is lost. Gymnastics and Cheer are fantastic vehicles for learning that the proper base often takes time and that sooner or later a faulty base will make further advancement all the more difficult. We strive to foster a healthy competitive spirit, with the emphasis on doing ones personal best. Although our teams do travel and compete against others, our successes truly come from doing more than the individual dreamed they could do, gaining the self confidence to go further, and ultimately making themselves driven to the point that they are the elite of the elite. We strive to teach all of our students this intrinsic motivation, for in the world of today and tomorrow the need for self-confidence, daring and drive will be evermore vital.
Thank you again for your support, we look forward to continuing our programs for another twenty years. Check out the website, Blog and class handouts often for upcoming events, team results and special rewards to show our appreciation for your patronage.

What is TOPs?

TOPs (Talent Opportunity Program), is a competitive talent search and educational program for gymnasts ages 7-11. Girls compete in June and July of each year for the chance to compete in Houston, Texas at TOPs Nationals. Girls compete doing handstand holding, press handstands, rope climb, sprinting, vertical jump, leg lifts, cast handstands, splits, and bridges. Training TOPs is a great way to increase strength and flexibility along with improving body awareness which leads to advances in actual gymnastics skills. GTCO also now has Tiny TOPs; an introduction to TOPs for gymnasts age 4, 5, and 6. If your daughter is younger than or meets the age requirements for this program and you are interested please contact Coach Amibeth.

Morning Practices

GTCO now offers morning practices for girls on the TOPs Girls Competitive. Each Monday and Friday mornings girls are invited to come into the gym and receive extra work on strength, flexibility, body shaping, and basic skills. A coach will be in the gym between 6:00 am and 8:30 am leaving you the opportunity to come at your convenience and improve your gymnastics. We are also willing to start a morning practice on Wednesday mornings. If you are interested in these morning workouts please contact Amibeth Hardy.

News: Message from Allan Powers

SESSION 2

Mr. Powers

Mr. Powers

I would like to thank everyone for giving their child the wonderful opportunity to experience the many benefits of gymnastics.  Recent events have made me come to appreciate even more the efforts you go to have your children involved here at GTCO.  It has come to my attention that GTCO is not listed in a number of phone books, 411, or even some search engines have a hard time finding us.  Thank you for your persistence in tracking us down.  Back in August we realized a problem with our phone system, which quickly became a problem with our internet provider.  Our phones are a VOIP system, so if you have ever called and gotten no answer, or gone straight to voicemail, I apologize.  I am told our network shuts down because of a possible Bandwidth problem.  We are currently trying to work with Time Warner cable to correct the issue.  However speedy service does not seem to be in their vocabulary when it comes to business class.  I am talking with new people at TW and hopefully the next couple weeks will see the situation rectified.  Until then hang with us and realize our technology is failing us.  I am relying on the patience I learned through gymnastics to get through this process.

Which brings us to thanking you again for providing your child with an activity that instills confidence, strength, balance and perseverance?  As society becomes more and more demanding More >

News: Tumbling

Its tumble time!

It's tumble time!

Allan, AmiBeth, Lindsay, Steve, Jake, and Jenny are excited about another session of tumbling and the fun of teaching you and your child bring to us.   Our classes are designed for the beginner to the Advanced with special” clinic” dates to zero in on a specific skill.  Whether it is a cartwheel or a double full, the thrill of achieving your goal is our priority.   Tumbling at GTCO is a great compliment to any other activity you may do.  The balance strength and co-ordination achieved through the class is easily transferred to other athletic endeavors.  Cheer, Dance, Diving, Soccer and a host of other sports can be positively impacted from a tumbling class at GTCO.  We are currently looking for “extreme sports” enthusiasts to share our tumbling knowledge with, if you know one…..send them our way.  We also welcome cheer squads to come together, with or without a GTCO instructor. You can contact us at 937-746-2213, email GTCOINC@aol.com or stop by the front desk and leave a note for Allan for more info.

News: PreSchool

Welcome to SESSION 2!!

This session has a tendency to be one of the favorite sessions among our Preschool Staff and students!!  We will be celebrating ‘Fall Harvest Week’ the week of October 26!! We invite all the children to wear their Halloween costumes to gymnastics class! After warm ups, we will have them take off any items that may be a safety issue while doing gymnastics (masks, hats, etc.).  This is always a great time for the instructors and students—some children decide not wear costumes that week and that’s ok!  We will have mazes, pumpkins, our fog machine, the inflatable jumper and lots of FUN while learning!

Happy Halloween!

Pass out  PUMPKIN COUPONS to all your friends during Trick or Treat!!

Once again this year we will have pumpkin coupons available at the Front Desk to pass out to your friends, family, and neighbors during this festive season!  These coupons contain NO SUGAR and will go a long way in promoting good health, fitness, and FUN for all children!

Share our love of gymnastics with everyone you know!!

News: Tumblegarten & Educational

Boys Tumblegarten:

Looking forward to another great session of high energy fun and movement that will allow us to learn the basic body positions and skills needed to move to the next level.  The Tumblegarten program is an excellent platform for learning balance strength and flexibility that will aid in every athletic endeavor, whether they stick with gymnastics or move on to other sports.  We work on a lot of strength, but the boys rarely notice it because Lindsay, Jake and Allan keep the class fun and moving as they challenge the physical and mental capabilities of the boys.  This class is a great base for the boys and we have a great time teaching it.  If you ever have any questions please feel free to catch us after class, contact us at GTCOINC@aol.com, or phone 937-746-2213.  Don’t forget…bring a friend and you get a referral credit and your friend can receive $15.00 off their registration.

Girls Tumblegarten:

New Coach – Tumblegarten has a new coach! Britney Riesenberg is a former GTCO gymnast and is very happy to be back in the gym coaching. She also hopes to compete gymnastics again on her college club team (Miami). Welcome Back Britney.

Welcome and Congratulations – We would like to welcome all new tumblegarten students. Tumblegarten 1 is an introductory level of gymnastics. It allows gymnasts to learn the basics of each of the gymnastics events; including vault, bars, balance beam, and floor exercise.

I would also like to congratulate all those gymnasts who moved up to the next level in Tumblegarten. Thank you for your hard work and Good Luck.

Evaluations – Last session Tumblegarten instructors began using a new evaluation form. Instructors can now check off skills as your daughter  achieves them, therefore showing us how your daughter is progressing from week to week and session to session. Weeks 6 and 7 of each session you will be receiving a copy of these forms with comments on certain skills and recommendations for the next session. If you have an questions about your daughters progress in the Tumblegarten program please don’t hesitate to ask your instructor.

Amibeth – Girls Tumblegarten Director

Boys’ Educational class

Joey left for college in September so we drafted his brother to take over the class.  Jake is having a lot of fun with the guys on Saturday mornings and there are still spots open in the class, so if you have a friend…..we can make a sweet deal for those who bring in another guy to the class.  Check with the front desk for details.  The educational class program is a great spot for those boys looking to have a lot (and I mean a lot) of fun while learning new and challenging skills. Jake will put them through their paces while being aware of the skills and strength necessary for the competitive team should the boys wish to take that avenue.  As always, the class program is designed to help all students, no matter what they choose to do with the skills and strength acquired in our programs.  Bring a friend, if they sign up, we will make each of you one sweet deal.  We really want to see this program grow.

Girls Educational Gymnastics

Jake and Steve are looking forward to more fun and learning.  Jake is a current member of the Girls competitive team coaching staff, and Steve a former member of the Franklin High School State Champions gymnastics teams.  Their knowledge of the sport is a great asset and they really enjoy sharing the fun of gymnastics with the girls.  The educational program works for all levels from beginner to High School gymnast looking to polish up their skills.  The girls will benefit from a staff full of successful competitors, coaches and judges that a prevalent throughout our girls gymnastics program.  We look forward to exceeding you and your Childs goals in our educational program.  Please do not hesitate to contact Jake or Steve before or after classes with any particular question you may have.  They can also be reached at 937-746-2213, or email GTCOINC@aol.com.

News: Girls Competitive Team

Girls Competitive Team From the Dance Corner:

If you hear your gymnast quoting crazy french words, congratulate them on remembering important ballet vocabulary!  Words like deme plie, releve, and battement; all terms we refer to while leaping and turning.  One of our goals this season is to dissect our leaps and turns, and find ways to improve them.  We’re on our way!  We’re also building strength in our legs and shoulders by doing barre exercises.  Finally, by practicing choreography to music, we’re learning fluency and rhythm.  Whether it’s compulsory or optional routines we’re working on, or optional choreography, there is always something going on in “the dance corner”!

Miss Dawn

I am excited that the season is coming closer!!

With the season almost here, here are a couple of reminders:
*Make sure if you are feeling ill to stay at home.  A sick gymnast cannot work hard and makes other team mates sick.
*Healthy snacks are essential to a productive workout.
*Make sure you are getting enough sleep.  Perfecting skills is easier when you are at your best and not tired.
*If you have any problems, concerns, or questions, Please don’t hesitate to ask.  You can call, email, or leave a message and I will contact you.

And again thank you for giving us the opportunity to make your gymnast the best she can be.

We would like to welcome a new member to our optional level team.  Sarah Pietryga is a gymnast from Mew Mexico who has moved to the Centerville area.  She is a freshman at Centerville High School.  She plans to compete for Centerville High School and our team.
